The Kiss by Gustav Klimt
Dear friends,
It’s been a long time since I’ve uploaded anything here. ONLY POEMS took over my life quite substantially and all my weeks disappear into this giant beautiful thing. In any case, since there are so many of you here, and because I still love Bob’s poems the most (we’ve been publishing them regularly in our magazine) I thought I’d start doing this again. It’s summer and there’s no school/teaching obligation which frees up some time to do more things that truly matter. And I think poetry matters, especially Bob’s. Nobody’s writing more beautiful, exciting, relevant poetry today. Here’s a short sweet poem for you all to get back into a rhythm. You’ll receive more of these, so brace your hearts, or open them, and let these poems transform you.
love & light,
Karan
Almost
by Bob Hicok
When someone says nothing is permanent, I kiss them for a year to prove them right slowly, sweetly.
Cool little poem, thanks, Karan, Bob! Yeah, the word nothing says it all here, to me meaning "no-thing" is permanent. Because "things" don't even really exist, but are a refraction of infinite awareness performed by the illusory mind, giving rise to the separate self, others, and the world, methinks. I love the "kiss them for a year" part too, which, like the temporary limitation of awareness known as "me" or "you," complies with the mental construct of time, and therefore could never be "permanent." An insightful poem, to be sure. Thanks for turning us on to it! <3
Thanks for introducing the poetry of Bob Hicok to me. I went on to watch, thanks to the internet, several videos of him reading his own work and that of others. Best to all of youse out there poetry land and Kapoor's world.
